Subtitling With Free Software

Explore subtitling using FLOSS (Free Libre Open Source Software). We’ll learn about options on Linux and Windows for adding subtitling to a video. Participants are encouraged to bring a short video in AVI form to subtitle.

Jeff Comfrey is a technologist that provides technical support to people doing good things. Jeff is a free software advocate who has been working in Portland for over eight years. He is also a member of infotage.net, a local technology collective.

Trillium Shannon is a member of the Circle A Radio collective at KBOO, and a volunteer with the Portland Central America Solidarity Committee. She has overcome her distaste for the tech world, in order to use these valuable tools in movement building projects here in Portland and across borders.

How To Change Media Formats

An overview of media formats, with a focus on video, and how to change between them. Explore the world of media formats, analog and digital and transcoding (the process of switching between formats). We’ll work with media formats from VHS and Hi-8 to DVD and digital formats (MP4, AVI, MKV).

Radio Theater Production

We will go through procedures to produce radio theater pieces.

Rolf produces the monthly radio theater show THE UBU HOUR on KBOO Community Radio. KBOO Radio Theater Collective is a collective of Radio Theater producers and writers who put together various radio theater shows that air on KBOO on Monday nights.

Block Printing

Intro to relief printing techniques for making posters/flyers/patches by carving images into linoleum or woodblocks and transferring the inked image onto paper or fabric. Learn these techniques from long term art activists from the Indonesia and the US, survey history and examples of the use of blockprinting in message oriented art, and discuss the importance of using artistic methods in social movements and justice campaigns.

Facilitated by Yustoni Volunteero and Icky A.

Yustoni Volunteero, founding member of Taring Padi radical art collective in Central Java, Indonesia will be at the PGMC as part of an art/speaking tour in the United States this fall. Pitch Your Story to a Magazine

This workshop will cover how writers and journalists can get their stories into print magazines, and will include: writing a pitch letter, getting clips, and working with editors. This workshop is appropriate for newer writers who are looking to break into the print-magazine world.
